When you're at a Crossroads...

“This moment at the crossroads demands choice. Dithering only delays the inevitable redirection. The question is not only where to turn, but when"

~Andrea Wood

Ever find yourself at a crossroads in life, where you're faced with big decisions, and you feel like you're stuck in a game of "choose-your-own-adventure"? If you're in recovery, these crossroads can feel like a major life challenge, especially when you're trying to stay on track. But hey, who doesn't like a little quacking chaos, right? Let's dive into some humorous ways to navigate those crossroads and come out with your sanity intact.

"Should I Stay or Should I Go?"

We've all been there. Whether it's deciding to end a toxic relationship, change jobs, or simply choose between Netflix and a meeting, the stakes can feel high. And let's be honest, the big decisions can be daunting. So, how do you make the right choice without turning into a ball of anxiety? Let’s break it down and have some fun along the way.

Meet the Ducks: Money, Health, Love, and Power

Here's where the ducks come in. You know, those pesky little things that keep you from making a decision because you think they all need to be perfectly aligned. Spoiler alert: they don't. Let's meet some of these waddling critters:

Money Duck:

This duck loves to squawk about financial stability. "I need more money before I can make a big decision!" Well, if you wait for this duck to get in line, you'll be stuck at that crossroad forever, wearing the same old shoes while the world keeps moving. And don’t even get me started on the cost of duck feed.

Health Duck:

This one flaps around saying, "I need to lose weight, get fit, or feel 100% before I make a move." It’s like trying to get your ducks in a row while they’re all off doing yoga in different directions. Good luck with that.

Love Duck:

This duck is a heartbreaker. It tells you that you need a partner or to fix your current relationship before you take a step forward. But let's be real, if you're in recovery, sometimes loving yourself is the biggest hurdle. Give yourself a break; you don't need a plus-one to make a decision.

Power Duck:

This one is all about confidence. "I need to feel ready, have the right skills, and overcome my fears." But here's the thing: if you wait for this duck to stop quacking, you'll be at that crossroad until you're wearing bifocals.

Get Your Ducks in a Value-Based Row

What if, instead of obsessing over these ducks, you decided to base your decisions on your values? Now we're talking! Imagine each duck representing a core value. When you align your decisions with what truly matters to you, the Universe has a way of lining up those ducks for you. It's like a magical game of duck-duck-goose, but without the stress.

Think about it. What do you value? Family, honesty, growth, recovery, compassion? When you stand at a crossroad with these values, the right path becomes clearer. You won't need a GPS to figure out which way to go because you'll be guided by your internal compass. And when you take that first step, even if your ducks are waddling in chaos, the Universe tends to back you up.

The Universe Has a Sense of Humor

Let's face it, the Universe can get bored, and when it does, it has a way of giving you a little push. I remember back in 1998, I was plodding along, taking tiny steps toward a decision, when BAM! I got fired. Yup, pink slip and all. You'd think I'd be devastated, but instead, I felt this weird sense of bliss, like someone had just removed a 10-ton weight from my shoulders. Turns out, that little push was the Universe's way of saying, "Get a move on!"

And guess what? It worked. Fast forward to 2024, and I can see that getting fired was one of the best things that could've happened. It led me down a path that aligned with my values and my soul's blueprint. Sometimes, you've got to trust the Universe—even if it seems like it has a twisted sense of humor.

Ready to Take the Leap?

So, if you're at a crossroad and not sure what to do, remember, you don't have to go it alone. Talk to a friend, a sponsor, or a counselor. And if the Universe starts poking you with a stick, take the hint. Sometimes, it's just a sign that it's time to take a step or even a leap. After all, life is too short to be stuck at a crossroad feeding ducks that aren't even yours. So, get quacking and choose your path based on your values. Who knows? You might just find that all the other ducks fall into place, quacking happily along with you. Woohoo!
